Old Fish Market

Overview

  • Constructed of wrough iron with a concrete and brick wall in 1845
  • One of the primary and most significant areas of commercial activity during the colonial and pre-independence eras
  • One of the strongest structures in downtown. The structure survided the 1931 and 1961 hurricanes that brought many other buildings to non-existence.
  • In 1993, in order to accomodate the City’s ever-growing population, the Old Market was replaced by what was to be the “New Belize City Central Market” that came to be known as the Comecial Center.
