Honduras Free School

Overview

• Site of the first school inaugurted on February 1816
• The schoolworked with the Church of England to develop approriate values and behaviours in the student
• The curriculum focussed on reading, writing and arithmetic
• It was the only school in the settlement with a total of 116  enrolled pupils until 1828
• In 1866, six years after the settlement became a formal British Colony, the Free Schol ceased to exit as a government institution
