Isaiah Morter

Overview

  • Born between 1866 and 1867 in British Honduras to African Parents.
  • As a youth, Isaiah acquired large tracks of land on which he successfully planted bananas.
  • He eventually acquired Caye Chapel where he planted coconuts and became known as the coconut king.
  • A great benefactor of Marcus Garvey’s UNIA and Marcus Gavey resided with him on his visit to Belize in 1921.
  • Belize’s first black millionaire.
