Overview
- Constructed of wrought iron with a concrete and brick wall in 1845.
- One of the primary and most significant areas of commercial activity during the colonial and pre-independence eras.
- One of the strongest structures in downtown. The structure survived the 1931 and 1961 hurricanes that brought many other buildings to non-existence.
- In 1993, in order to accommodate the City’s ever-growing population, the Old Market was replaced by what was to be the “New Belize City Central Market” that came to be known as the Commercial Center.
