Scot’s Kirk (Presbyterian Church)
Overview
The original church on this property was built of bricks in 1883 as one of the early churches near the harbor. The church was used as a hospital after the 1931 hurricane but much of that original brick building was destroyed by Hurricane Hattie in 1961 when a sugar barge let loose from its mooring by a tidal surge rammed into it. The current Presbyterian Church was rebuilt in 1964 and is often referred to as Scot’s Kirk.
